Hanging with David Bean & some new products…
While hosting the Light & Commerce Workshop, we had the opportunity to make use of the new Canon 5DII video feature while testing out the new Pocket Wizard TT5’s and California Sunbounces.I’ve gotta say, the new 5DII will be getting a lot of use shooting video around the studio. While it’s no RED ONE, it’s a very capable video capture device.
The behind the scenes video below was shot with an impromptu glidecam/steadicam setup using a Bogen Magic Arm and a few Super Clamps…
Stay on the lookout for more video from a refined rig in the not to distant future.
For now have a look at the behind the scenes shots from this weekend.

***EDIT***
A quick behind the scenes snap of the Bogen Magic Arm “steadi-cam” rig.
A bit crude, but hey in a pinch it worked just fine.
RED makes a cover
Esquire magazine recently released a sneak peek at their new cover shot by Greg Williams. What’s so interesting about this you ask? Well it was shot with the RED ONE “Ultra High Definition” camera that brings stills and motion video together in one device. More on the camera and it’s game changing features here and here.
Red River Photoshoots
Just finished 3 day adventure shoot…all assistants and models accounted for and no cliff incidents…Bonus!
We all had a chance after each day of shooting to hang with the crew at Miguel’s. (A local pizza joint and rock climbing outfitters.) Super laid back and a great place to meet some cool peeps. We met folks from…everywhere. Seattle, Conn, NY, Vancouver, Quebec, GB/UK, France, Russia, & the list goes on!
More to follow once we get a real internet connection….

4am Project…
Newport, KY – Rick Lohre, originally uploaded by RickLohre.
I recently participated in the 4am Project put on by Karen Strunks in the UK.
Read more about her project and view the photos at her site http://www.4amproject.org
A little background:
Hi. My name’s Karen Strunks, and my curiosity about 4am began about a year ago.
I live in Birmingham – the UK’s second largest city – and after a night out a while back, I was driving from one side of the city to the other. It was around 4am and I was really struck by the cityscape. Streets and roads normally teeming with people and traffic were deserted. The city was asleep and it felt like I had it all to myself. I liked it.
So late last year, I went out to take my first pictures at 4am in Birmingham. I’ve made some of them available on my blog. I’ve been asking readers of my blog for their suggestions of places they’d like to see at 4am. They decide where to go, and I take the photos, so it’s become a collaboration.
When I started to think about how the idea could be extended, the 4amproject was born.
I’d like to involve you in this project. What will YOU be doing at 4am on 4th of April?
Put the date in your diary, set your alarm, and take a picture of your world at 4am. It can be of anything at all. A self portrait, the room you’re in, the view from your window. Perhaps you want to venture out a bit further, maybe you’ll be travelling, or at work – maybe you’re a night owl…
I’m going to get some friends together and go out and have a 4am party. Why not do the same? Get some of your friends and family involved too. Or simply set the alarm, take a picture, and go back to the land of nod.
Whatever you’re doing, it’d be great if you could get involved and play a part in building up a big picture of the world at 4am.

Easter Bunny Photo Shoot
Ok so a while back, our studio was contacted by representatives from the Office of the Easter Bunny. Seems he needed some photos taken to help convince some children he really exists. Since he does not allow adults to photograph him in action in their home (silly legal and liability reasons) he did wish to hire someone who would capture his true essence and share it with the world.
Lucky me, I know, I know…you’re probably sitting there wishing you could have been the one. Well even though you may not be able to really get to take his picture, upload a photo of your own, tweak it and claim you did!
Head on over to visit my friends at - EasterBunnyPhoto.com
Thanks again Tom and Ann for the opportunity to be a part of your mission. This will be a photo shoot I’ll remember forever!
