Speaking of Traction, the Fine Arts Fund Cincinnati just launched the 2009 campaign materials and completely re-designed website.

Dan Miller – 48 Days
While this post really has nothing to do with photography, I’m writing about it, because if I hadn’t read it, you wouldn’t be reading my blog! :)
Exactly one year ago I read a book that changed the course of my photographic career. No it had absolutely nothing to do with “Photographic Style” or “Guerilla Marketing” or even “Super Duper Photo Equipment” or “The Latest Greatest Editing Software”. It was a book about doing what you love. I honestly have to say hands down this is one of the top 3 books I’ve ever read.
I came across this book after reading a book by Dave Ramsey – a personal money management guru. Julie and I were getting things “in order” and I happened upon a recommended reading list in one of his books. 48 days to the work you love by Dan Miller. By title it sounded like every other self help, find me a job, make millions doing nothing books you’ve seen on some infomercial.
IT’S NOT! It’s a real life book that requires you ask some hard questions of yourself. Like his Tennessee neighbor Dave Ramsey…Dan pulls no punches.
I’m not going to get all goofy and preachy, but upon reading this book, I took a serious look at where I was headed, where that would leave me in 5-10-15 years and I decided that I wanted something different. Not that I was unhappy, I was just unfulfilled. This book inspired me to make the changes I wanted.
This book acted as a catalyst…In the short months that followed my reading of it, I got my act together and formed a plan to DO THE WORK I LOVE. After developing and preparing a plan, I left my job at a Fortune 500 company after 11 yrs, concentrated on the now and made things happen. I acted on my plan, moved my photography business to the forefront and things have exploded.
I am excited every day I wake up, I have a blast doing what I do, and look forward to a long future doing the work I love
Thanks again Dan.
Butt Warmers…great idea…cuz it’s Cccccold out!
OK so they are not technically called butt warmers…but…Seat Heaters from WarmSeats.com
We just completed shooting new catalog images for a new client who have a simple yet fantastic idea.
I’ve always missed the heated seats that my VW TDI had back in the day. But I’ve never wanted to go and invest the money in having a set installed. Well, the recent shoot I did for Mike Meister at Warm Seats introduced me to an awesome concept…self installing them in my vehicle. It’s a heck of a lot easier to do than when I changed out that ole 8 Track in my 76 Buick for a state of the art tape deck.
The prop heaters found their way into the Suburban promptly after the shoot!
Here’s a prep shot for one of his ready to install heaters….
Check them out in your favorite aftermarket parts catalog or give him a visit at WarmSeats.com
Thanks again Mike.
Thanks Mom and Dad…
…for your support and encouragement. Setting out to do what I love has turned into loving what I do.
I don’t want to get all mushy, but I wanted to let you know your confidence in me over the years has enabled me to do things I thought might have been impossible.
Thanks
Video…glorious streaming video…
Well another update on some new features on the site. I’m now able to post and share video directly on my site. “Video?”…you say…YES VIDEO!! Even though I’m a photographer, I’m finding video a very valuable tool in conveying my portfolio, personal projects (and maybe even a few behind the scenes clips soon). I’ve relied on YouTube in the recent past to post videos on my blog and embed into the site.
Well no more…I’ll be able to share directly through my site without sending you to six different outlets.
Looking forward to posting more in the near future…but for now enjoy a flipthrough of my book and a quick personal project for Light My Fire….
